The new Lingering Island feature added to Apple's iPhone 14 Pro line is still relatively innovative, and we're learning more about the feature as it's unblocked in press reviews.

It's reported that the Spirit Island can currently display about 30 types of information, including incoming call alerts, AirPods and other accessories being connected, Face ID authentication, Apple Pay, AirDrop, AirPlay, car keys in the Wallet app, unlocking iPhone with Apple Watch, charging and low battery alerts, ringtone/silent mode switching, various NFC interaction, focus mode changes, quick commands, Airplane mode, SIM card reminders, and Find My features.

Notably, the annoying low battery alert no longer appears in the middle of the screen when the phone's battery drops to 20 percent, whether or not the charger is connected. Instead, the low battery reminder will appear in the island, without requiring the user to take any action.

Smart Island also allows users to interact with real-time activities such as ongoing phone calls, SharePlay sessions, music playback, timers, turn-by-turn directions in Apple Maps, voice memos, screen recordings and personal hotspot connections. CallKit APIs for third-party applications such as WhatsApp.

Unique to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models, Lingering Island is a pill-shaped area that replaces the bangs found on previous models. With the help of software, the island can morph into different shapes and sizes, and later this year, the feature will also support Live Activities in third-party apps.
