In a review of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, Tom's Guide said the iPhone 14 Pro Max averaged 14 hours and 42 minutes of battery life on a single full charge. In a similar test, the iPhone 13 Pro Max lasted 12 hours and 16 minutes.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max now ranks second in Tom's Guide's smartphone battery life rankings behind the Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro, which lasts about 15 hours and 30 minutes.

In the test, Tom's Guide found that the iPhone 14 Pro Max consumed just 30 percent of its power in five hours while downloading apps, listening to music, and taking photos and videos. After charging close to 90 percent and using the phone from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m., downloading apps, playing music, and taking photos and videos, the phone's battery power dropped to just 60 percent.

When it comes to charging, Tom's Guide's test results don't quite match Apple's claim that the iPhone 14 Pro can be charged to 50 percent in less than 30 minutes. The tests it conducted showed that the device could charge from 0% to 42% in 30 minutes.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max does have a slightly smaller battery compared to Apple's iPhone 13 Pro Max, but the battery life is further improved thanks to the new A16 Bionic chip and more efficient display.

Unlike iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro features a more advanced OLED display with variable refresh rates as low as 1Hz compared to 10Hz on last year's iPhone. On top of the more efficient OLED panel, the display is now controlled by a new display engine embedded in the A16 Bionic chip for reduced power consumption and features such as ProMotion, Lingering Island and Always-on display, among other features.

And according to Apple, the iPhone 14 Plus has the longest battery life of any iPhone 14 / Pro series, so we can look forward to seeing how it performs in real-world testing.
