According to officials, PLC SSDs are capable of storing 5 bits of data per storage cell compared to QLC SSDs, storing 25% more data in the same amount of space. This reduces the cost, space and energy consumption of storage.

Officials say that PLC NAND can be produced on devices with QLC NAND and that Solidigm PLC SSD products can be launched soon. Solidigm PLC SSDs will be the first to be used in data centre solutions, with a specific launch date yet to be announced.

Formerly part of Intel's storage business, Solidigm is now an independent subsidiary of SK Hynix in the U.S. Headquartered in San Jose, California, Solidigm employs nearly 2,000 people and has offices in 20 locations worldwide.
