Apple watchOS 8.7.1 released: fixes Apple Watch Series 3 accidental restart bug
Apple today pushed the watchOS 8.7.1 update (internal version number: 19U67) to Apple Watch users, 28 days after the last release.
This watchOS 8.7.1 update is only available for Apple Watch Series 3 models, and users with an updated Apple Watch will not check for this update.
Note that due to server configuration caching issues across Apple's regional nodes, there may be a slight delay in detecting the update in some locations, usually within half an hour, but not for long.
watchOS 8.7.1 can be downloaded for free via the dedicated Apple Watch app on iPhone by going to General > Software Update.
To install the new software, the Apple Watch needs to have at least 50% battery power, be placed on a charger and be in iPhone range.
watchOS 8.7.1 is expected to be one of the final updates to the watchOS 8 operating system, as Apple has now shifted its focus to watchOS 9, due for release this fall.
