Ross Young: Apple iPhone 14 Max at risk of delay as production schedule fails to keep up with plan

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), a leading global display consultancy, today released a report stating that Apple is behind schedule on production of the new 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max this year.

He said that based on supply chain data throughout August, Apple's iPhone 14 Max panel volume is still behind the iPhone 14 Pro Max by a "wide margin.

He went on to say that Apple's iPhone 14 Pro Max supply this year is more than three times that of the iPhone 14 Max.

Apple's iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max will reportedly share the same 6.7-inch screen, although the panels themselves will be different (iPhone 14 Max does not support Apple's Adaptive Refresh Rate technology), and only iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will enjoy ProMotion. Other than that, iPhone 14 Max will continue to have a non-recognizable "bangs" screen, but iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a "Pro limited" "exclamation point-shaped The iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a "Pro limited" "exclamation point shaped" punch hole design.

IT Home reported that the Nikkei Asian Review said in May that production of the iPhone 14 Max had been delayed due to supply chain blocking restrictions. But then Ming-Chi Kuo said that while production of the iPhone 14 Max was behind schedule, the situation was "still under control.

From Ross Young's report, it appears that the supply chain situation has worsened since May, but it's certainly possible that Apple has deliberately chosen to prioritize Pro Max orders.

After all, a lot can change dramatically in the space of two months. If the iPhone 14 Max panel supply situation is as bad as Ross Young says it is, it means the device could be delayed or severely limited (early in its release).

From what we know so far, this year's addition of the iPhone 14 Max, with its large screen and long battery life, is expected to be the hottest model upon release, though it will likely be much more expensive than the "non-pro" price everyone has in mind.
