Musk announces 25% price increase for Tesla
Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted Sunday that the price of the company's Fully Automated Driving System (FSD) will increase by 25 percent in North America, the company said Aug. 22. This is the second price increase for the system this year.
Musk said the price of FSD in North America will increase to $15,000 on Sept. 5, following the widespread release of FSD Beta 10.69.2 of the system. For orders placed before Sept. 5, the current $12,000 price will apply, but orders will be delivered a little later.
Tesla's Autopilot system is currently under scrutiny by federal and California regulators, who are investigating whether the system is flawed. The U.S. Federal National Transportation Safety Administration said in July that it had reviewed nearly 200 vehicle accidents involving the use of Autopilot. Meanwhile, the California Department of Motor Vehicles has accused Tesla of misleading consumers when marketing Autopilot and FSD features.
