Ford recalls 100,000 hybrid vehicles in U.S. due to fire risk

Ford has issued a recall of some 2020 to 2022 Corsair, Escape and Maverick hybrid vehicles due to concerns that the vehicles could catch fire.

The recall affects 100,689 vehicles in the U.S., all equipped with 2.5-liter hybrid and plug-in hybrid electric engines, UPI reported. Ford said that in the event of an engine failure, affected vehicles could release large amounts of oil and gasoline vapor. Both substances could then accumulate near the vehicle's ignition source and cause a fire under the hood or melt internal components.

Ford says the engine failures in the vehicles involved in the recall were caused by isolated manufacturing problems and that no injuries or accidents have been reported in connection with them. Ford has notified dealers of its decision and plans to notify owners by Aug. 8 of vehicles containing modified under-engine guards and active grille shutters, and dealers will fix those recalled cars.

Last month, Ford also recalled 49,000 Mach-E electric vehicles, citing concerns that their high-voltage battery connectors could overheat.
