Apple iOS 16/15 3D Maps feature has arrived in Chicago and Las Vegas: more detail
Apple is expanding its richly detailed 3D maps feature to two new U.S. cities -- Chicago and Las Vegas. The feature first became available to Map users in London, Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco with the release of iOS 15 in September 2021.
Apple 3D Maps is different from satellite 3D maps. The new 3D view shows rich elements custom-designed for neighborhoods, business districts, marinas, buildings and more. Users can see elevation details throughout the city, new road labels and hundreds of custom-designed landmarks.
The 3D map also includes roadway details such as turn lanes, medians, bus and cab lanes, and crosswalks. Freeways with overlapping complex intersections are presented in a road-level 3D view, making them easier for drivers to view.
3D maps include everything from iconic hotels in Las Vegas to multi-story freeway interchanges. There's also a night mode with moonlight that can be activated after dusk.
With Apple iOS 16, drivers can also create routes that include multiple stops and sync them with other Apple devices. Traffic routes will also show the cost of the journey, while also allowing users to recharge their transit cards using the Wallet app, all within Maps. Apple 3D Maps will soon add support for more cities, including Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.
