Ford CEO calls out Musk: Can Tesla still launch Cybertruck or not
But while Ford delivered more than 90 per cent more electric cars in 2022 than it did a year earlier, the traditional automaker still lags far behind Tesla, which has about 75 per cent of the US electric car market.
Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are the two best-selling electric cars in the US, with the Ford Mustang Mach-E a close second, but it is well behind in third place. In the first quarter of 2022, Tesla delivered 46,707 Model 3s, while Ford delivered only 6,734 Mach-Es.
However, some experts doubt that Tesla will retain its "crown". Last year, Steve Westly, an early investor and former board member of Tesla, said that competition was eroding Tesla's dominance on all fronts.
Musk and Farley have praised each other in the past. Last December, the Ford CEO congratulated Musk after he was named Time magazine's 'Person of the Year'.
Musk also congratulated Ford for launching the F-150 Lightning and for "embracing the electrified future". Despite this, Musk has repeatedly expressed his disappointment that companies such as Ford and General Motors have received praise from the White House, with Tesla notably left out.
