Apple iPhone 14 Pro phone A16 performance forecast: 15% faster CPU, 25-30% faster GPU, 50% more memory bandwidth
Apple is expected to release the new iPhone 14 series this fall. iPhone 14 Standard and iPhone 14 Max will use the A15 chip, while iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models will use the A16 chip. So the iPhone 14 Pro will perform much better than the iPhone 14 standard version.
Now Macworld brings you the performance predictions for the iPhone 14 Pro, with all items compared to the iPhone 13 Pro.
First, it's confirmed in terms of the chip manufacturing process: a third-generation 5nm process using TSMC's N4P. This brings some relatively modest performance gains.
Compared to the original 5nm "N5" manufacturing process, N4P offers an 11 percent performance improvement, a 22 percent energy efficiency improvement, and a 6 percent density improvement.
The iPhone 14 Pro is expected to get faster memory. Back in March, analysts said the iPhone 14 Pro model would be upgraded from LPDDR4 to LPDDR5 (6GB), and a report from Digitimes today agrees. This is the faster memory Apple is using in the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.
" There should be an increase in memory bandwidth, as well as a number of other improvements, which, combined with higher peak clock speeds, could boost the performance of Apple's chips by up to 15 percent."
Macworld discusses the possibility of ARMv9 support, but does not believe it will have much of an impact. In terms of GPU performance, it would bring potential additional cores, architectural improvements and faster memory access.
