Apple closes iOS 15.5 verification channel, iPhone cannot be downgraded after upgrading iOS 15.6
After releasing iOS 15.6 last week, Apple today stopped validating iOS 15.5. This means that users who updated to iOS 15.6 can no longer downgrade to iOS 15.5.
iOS 15.6 fixes the problem that Settings may always show that storage is full even when the device still has storage available, and also fixes the problem that Safari browser tabs may revert to previous pages.
Apple typically stops validating older versions of iOS a few weeks after it pushes out the official update. For some users who have updated to the latest iOS, downgrading can sometimes be very effective when they encounter major bugs.
That's why Apple waits a while before closing the validation channel for older iOS systems. The previous release of iOS 15.5 included enhancements for Apple podcasts and other features and bug fixes, as well as a baseband update to 1.61.00 to improve iPhone signal performance.
