Tesla: Australian sales are growing rapidly, and cumulative sales are expected to double by the end of the year
Robyn Denholm, chairman of Tesla, said on 19 May that sales of the company's EV in Australia are growing rapidly and are expected to catch up with the company's Powerwall home energy storage battery system. Australia is a very peculiar market from an energy perspective. In the Australian market, the number of Tesla's Powerwall installations is higher than the cumulative sales of EVs".
Denholm noted that "with over 26,500 Tesla vehicles (cumulative sales) on the road in Australia, sales have momentum and it would not surprise me to see that number (cumulative sales) double by the end of the year".
Denholm pointed out that the biggest obstacle to further accelerate EV sales is the lack of fast charging stations, Australia's fast charging stations.
As of the end of the first quarter of this year, Tesla's cumulative global sales volume was 2.5 million units, with Australia accounting for about 1% of the total. In the Australian market, EV accounts for only 2% of new car sales.
