Rivian said in a statement that it produced 4,401 electric R1T pickups and R1S SUVs in the second quarter and delivered 4,467 vehicles to customers. At the time of its IPO roadshow last year, Rivian had expected to produce 50,000 vehicles by 2022. However, Rivian lowered its production target in March, mainly because of global supply chain issues affecting production, but on Wednesday Rivisna changed its story and expects to produce 25,000 vehicles this year.

Rivian is still small in terms of production, but the electric pickup market is expected to grow rapidly in the coming years. Ford sold 1,837 electric F-150 Lightnings pickups in June, for a total of 2,296 units sold since production began in late May.

From the start of production in late 2021 through the end of June, Rivian has produced a total of 7,969 vehicles.
