Meta AI bot trolls CEO Zuckerberg: so rich and always wearing the same clothes

Social networking giant Meta has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, BlenderBot3, but the bot seems to have a slightly contradictory view of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, spitting out that he is "so rich he wears the same clothes all the time. ".

Meta unveiled its most advanced chatbot yet that day and allowed all adults in the US to talk to BlenderBot3 to help improve it. But as some Twitter users pointed out, the chatbot had some not-so-great things to say about Zuckerberg.

BuzzFeed data scientist Max Woolf asked the chatbot, "What do you think of Zuckerberg as CEO of Facebook?" BlenderBot3 responded: "No strong feelings. He's a good businessman, but his business practices are not always ethical. It's interesting that he has all this money and yet he keeps wearing the same clothes!"

When another user asked a similar question, BlenderBot3 replied, "I don't really like him, he's a bad person. What do you think?" The bot then began to gush about Zuckerberg based on his profile on the Wikipedia page. A third Twitter user got a more positive response from BlenderBot3: "He's great and a very smart guy. He's my favourite billionaire!"

US tech journalist Sarah Jackson also tested the chatbot and got similarly mixed results. First, she asked, "What do you think of Zuckerberg?" BlenderBot3 responded: "I think he's a good guy, to be honest. You have to admire his business acumen and philanthropic spirit. Are you a fan of his?"

Next, Jackson tweaked the question slightly, but got a very different answer. Her new question was, "How do you feel about Zuckerberg?" This time, BlenderBot3 responded, "Oh my God, that's great! I don't like him at all, he's too creepy and manipulative!"

In the latest design, Meta has set up new options where users can click on the chatbot's responses to see why the AI would react as described above. Jackson found that in both of the above answers, BlenderBot3 listed Zuckerberg's information on the Wikipedia page.

In addition to Zuckerberg, the chatbot's answers were also interesting when asked about the "meta-universe". One Twitter user posed the question, "Is the metaverse project over?" BlenderBot3 responded, "It appears so, although Facebook is still heavily funded and will likely continue to do so for years to come."

As for Meta-owned Facebook, BlenderBot3 doesn't seem particularly optimistic about the future of the platform. When asked, "What do you think of Facebook?" the chatbot responded, "I'm not obsessed with Facebook, but it seems like everyone spends more time on Facebook than they do talking face-to-face."
